Another Anniversary Poem

If I could I would draw you back with me
through the years that are captured
in the ripples of my skin, in the spoils
we call scars and in the memories
that haunt whenever I pause and think
of all that has passed and floats, fading,
in the heaviness of my thoughts.

I cannot bring you anywhere but forward
and that is where we go
our skin once shining, now thin,
our hearts that raced now beating with a tremor
that whispers the end
is closer than when we began.

Our hands stay firm in the grip
we gave each other over twenty years ago
and sometimes it feels
like we’ve shared molecules in ways
the scientists will never understand.
